We enjoyed the tour very much. We booked two days in advance and all the communication with them was very good. The tour guide helped us put together different parts of Italian history by walking us around some key places and landmarks in Rome as well as some cool streets. She explained everything very well and gave us some tips for other sightseeing outside of the tour as well. Overall, I recommend you take this tour early on during your visit in Rome. It will set you up for the rest of your trip. Don’t forget to bring cash and tip them as this is how they make their living!
She was the best- informative, sweet and helpful!
06.12.2023. evening tour. this is the best tour i have ever attended. with his knowledge, alessio awakened the imagination, thinking and imagining of that ancient and modern Rome. I could not have imagined a more competent or better guide than Alessio, an archaeologist with wonderful stories and knowledge about Rome. We are coming in the summer and will book you again! Greetings to Alessio
I'll start with a positive - the tour guide's knowledge of Rome was excellent and she have a run down of the history of key landmarks at each point.
However, the tour got cancelled last minute so another tour guide was sent which was not a problem. When the new tour guide arrived, she was clearly annoyed to be here on her 'day off' as she pointed out at least five times throughout the tour. It was blatantly obvious throughout the whole tour how annoyed she was to be doing this tour and I think this impacted the tour overall.
She also walked incredibly fast and didn't allow people time to ask questions or take pictures of the key landmarks. Additionally, she then complained and moaned at the rest of the group that people had walked off from the tour and how rude this was. If I'm honest, I think people actually got lost as she didn't make herself known to the group as we were walking, she would just walk fast and expect everyone else to keep up with her.
Whilst talking through the history of Rome, although her knowledge was impressive, she spent the whole time looking at her phone and not engaging with the group. The whole tour seemed very rehearsed and not very personal.
I've done walking tours in many cities (Porto, Lisbon, Geneva, Brussels) and I have to say, this was the most disappointing walking tour I've been on. The attitude of the guide wasn't great and this massively impacted the delivery of the walking tour.
When you’re looking for a walking tour the first thing you want is a tour guide who brings the history and character of the location alive. Luckily Julia was fantastic at putting Rome’s history into context and in a way that was entertaining and easy to listen to.
We did drop a star because we felt she repeated herself a few times and started the tour fairly late because she was waiting for more people (ie., more tip money). But that is the name of the game.
Our tour guide cancelled last minute. When the new guide arrived (I think her name was Julia), she was angry that several of the groups participants couldn’t find the meeting point (which was vague anyway). She brought this up several times. She also brought up that it was her day off and seemed angry about this.
Her knowledge was excellent but she was very scathing of other tours.
As the tour started 20 mins late we had to leave as it was going longer than the 2 hours. I apologised to Julia saying thank you so much but we have to go to get to our next tour. She was clearly annoyed again stating it’s her day off.
Julia also spoke badly about another family who had booked the morning tour by mistake. It felt very rude and uncomfortable.
Couldnt recommend more. Our guide Nick was amazing, engaging and passionate about the Roman history and history as such, which translated to the whole group as well. We have booked the tour day in advice at 11, might be too hot, but Nick made sure that most of the time we stand in shade and has plenty of places to refill water through the tour. You will learn a lot about the Rom history with so much more background and interesting anecdotes. This was our first free walking tour and its safe to save that and it was 100% worth it. Highly recommend. The 5/5 tripadvisor review is true to its statement!
One of the best travel experience we had in Rome. Took the morning tour wich starts a few minutes past 10:00 in the Spain Square with the first stop for the first tour information an the corner of The Spanish Steps. Amazing 2 hours walking passed with precious and rich informations about the history of Rome. Our tour guide was so passional about this city that her informations and her magic words in the purest possible english went right into our hearts. Would have liked this tour never end but we had to say goodbye near the Castle od Angels. I'm really grateful for this experience!
